Since its establishment in 1926, Darlington Country Club has set a standard of excellence. The fairways are bordered by tall, mature pine trees and beautiful Darlington Oaks, while the wide winding "Black Creek" runs through the property, highlighting the picturesque scenery. The rolling undulations on the greens and the steep slopes around them create a unique challenge for each approach shot and reward the golfer with a creative short game. The greens' size and design vary to complement each hole's length and difficulty level.
Florence Country Club has a rich history, dating back to its founding in 1924. Although the original architect is unknown, the 18-hole layout was built in the "Donald Ross" style and is situated on a stunning 77-acre site with significant elevation changes throughout the property. Over the years, Florence Country Club has hosted several top professional and amateur tournaments, including two USGA National Championships. The club hosts The Grant Bennett Florence Junior Invitation, a widely recognized event.
The tournament is grateful to have the opportunity to hold its event at these exceptional facilities, staffed by professionals who are enthusiastic about accommodating all participants. The atmosphere and professionalism of everyone involved in the tournament have been crucial in establishing it as one of the most popular high school tournaments in South Carolina.
History:
The tournament was originally created as a 36-hole stroke play competition for high school golf teams in the Pee Dee area of South Carolina. It has been held every spring since 2000 and has become a popular event, now open to both public and private school golf teams from all over South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.
The tournament has gained more recognition and prestige over the years thanks to ongoing promotion efforts. In 2004, it was officially accepted into the South Carolina Junior Golf Association's tournament list for individual state rankings. In 2008, tournament officials expanded the field to include teams from neighboring states, increasing the competition's diversity and competitiveness.
